    Hello,

I saw that you were searching for quality checkers for Igano Kabamaru. I would like to apply for the position, if possible.

I am an absolute newbie and I am not a native English speaker. Please consider these facts while you are making your decisions. I am from Europe and working at a company, so I am only available during 17-24h (GMT+1) (If you live in America, than I can check the videos while you are sleeping. :D).

I do not know how the whole process is working, so you have to teach me a lot of thing at the beginning.

I am very motivated at the moment, I can only offer this much. I hope that this group will release good quality videos. :)

Thanks for reading my letter or considering me.

E-mail us at saizen.recruits@gmail.com and ask for the test, and you living in Europa does not matter at all as we are spread all over the world.

    can I do the test?

    avatar juggen says:

I dunno, but by the sound of it you wouldn’t be able to help much unless you improved either your English and/or Japanese? You don’t seem too confident. Or would you like us to make a test for you?

  6. March 11th, 2011 at 8:15 pm

    avatar xiah says:

if i would translate it to my language I would be 100% confident ,my english became poor after learning Japanese … I think I need to improve it then ^^
sorry Im not much help then ,Igano Kabamaru my fev that why i wanted to help in it .
wish u guys the best ^-^v

Igano is no problem atm, you will probably see a lot more of that series soon. Ashita no Joe and Taisho are really stalled on TL though.

    avatar Tyciol says:

Japanese to English seems straightforward enough, just learning the language or whatever. I am kinda curious though, is there a guide somewhere which teaches how to do editing, timing or typesetting? These sound like they might be faster to learn than Japanese although I’m still not entirely sure what they are or how to gain experience in them, like there are guides out there which clearly state to teach languages (not sure how good they are though) but not sure where to learn such other skills.

It makes me wonder if when fansubbing groups recruit for various roles if you know places which educate people for the roles if the experienced people could recommend those places for the interested?

    avatar Scab says:

Well, there are and there aren’t.

Learning Japanese (well enough to translate properly) will take you years, and editing assumes that you’re exceptional with words (grammar, nuance, connotation; all that jazz), so it would be for (a) a native English speaker who’s (b) above average among his peers in literacy. We’re looking for existing talent here.

The other things you can learn, timing in particular is mostly grunt work and there are plenty of Aegisub tutorials around. These will teach you basic SSA typesetting as well, but you’ll really want to get to know Adobe After Effects if you’re serious about that. While in theory we could teach all these things, in practice we’re recruiting because we don’t have that sort of free time (or we’d do it ourselves).

For what it’s worth, most people start out as quality checkers and move on from there once they have a good idea of what exactly each position entails.

Hey, I read your post on the AnimeSuki forums where you said you could use a timer for Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002. I’ve got lots of time and quite a bit of experience with timing, so I can help you out.

  14. June 20th, 2011 at 8:16 pm

    avatar sangofe says:

Positron: can you time with the same style as in the released episodes? Do you have releases you’ve timed you can show us, or can you take the timing test (if you do, be sure to follow the timing guidelines).

  15. June 20th, 2011 at 8:17 pm

    avatar sangofe says:

Oh, I forgot; send us an e-mail to saizen.recruits@gmail.com if you’re up for taking the test.

  16. June 20th, 2011 at 9:55 pm

    avatar Positron says:

sangofe: Yeah, I just checked out your latest release and it’s pretty much the same as my timing style. No problem.

Just sent you guys an email.

    We never received that e-mail.

I was wondering what the position of editor would entail, as you mention you need to be a native English speaker, which I am. I live in Australia and not to sound egotistical, but I’m rather good at speaking and typing English.

If you could get back to me on this, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

  21. July 14th, 2011 at 7:05 am

    avatar sangofe says:

Yes, it’s open, please feel free to e-mail us at saizen.recruits@gmail.com in order to receive the test.

    Taken from our test instructions:

Goal: To show the ability to reword English sentence to flow more smoothly.

Grading: Grading will be based how natural the script sounds while maintaining the meaning of the original translation.

Grammar, punctuation, and spelling will be considered. Time will be noted but is not a major factor in grading.

    Hi,
I am interested in applying for the editor post. I am Indian, but have lived in England for over a decade now and am well above the average in terms of my English (taken from national exam scores etc).
Before I apply, I had a few questions:
1)How long will the test take to mark?
(simply because soon I will have to go AFK to study and will only be able to start after that)
2)If I did pass, which anime will I be most likely to be working on?
(just so I can familiarise myself with it before starting…)
3)Is it just me or is everyone having problems registering?!
    Thanks
    Kamikeima
